Joshua McGarvey is a multidisciplinary artist and designer whose work is driven by a commitment to circular design principles. With a focus on creating unique and sustainable products, McGarvey's practice blends art and design to challenge traditional notions of consumption and waste.
McGarvey's artistic journey began with a solid foundation in formal education. He holds a Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnesota, as well as a Master of Arts and Bachelor of Fine Arts from Ball State University. This academic background has equipped him with a diverse skill set and a deep understanding of artistic practices.
McGarvey's dedication to his craft has been recognized through numerous awards and grants. He was a recipient of the prestigious 2018 Jerome Emerging Artist Fellowship, which supported his artistic development. Additionally, he has been awarded Artist Initiative Grants from the Minnesota State Arts Board in both 2017 and 2020. His early career was marked by the 2015-2016 Art(ist) on the Verge Emerging Artist Fellowship, which served as a catalyst for his professional growth.
Throughout his career, McGarvey has consistently explored the intersection of art, design, and technology, pushing the boundaries of traditional practices. His work often incorporates recycled and repurposed materials, transforming discarded objects into functional and aesthetically pleasing products.
